What the policy update says

The Ministry of Heavy Industries stated that PM E-DRIVE has a total outlay of ₹10,900 crore, including ₹2,000 crore allocated for public EV charging stations. As of 1 July 2026, ₹689 crore had been approved for 6,562 chargers involving three oil-marketing companies and nine states.

What buyers should know

  • The figure refers to approved deployment, not necessarily chargers already live.
  • Real buyer benefit depends on location, commissioning, uptime, connector type and tariff.
  • Passenger-car buyers should separately check whether charging coverage is practical for their own city and highway routes.

EV Ki Report view

Policy announcements are an input, not the final ownership reality. Before buying, map home charging first and then verify reliable public backups on the routes you actually use.
